Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a trip to meet with national troops in the Pokrovsk area on the start of the week. He stated that he met with fighters at the command post of the 1st Corps of the state defense force Azov, which is leading defense efforts in the Dobropillya area, a location approximately 20km from the city.

Intense Conditions in the Region

Geospatial data from a national effort showed that opposition armies had pushed further into the city and surrounding areas, though significant areas was not fully held by either side. The conditions are severe, with accounts indicating that Russian forces were establishing defenses and building up positions in certain areas.

Opposition armies are making progress in the Pokrovsk sector and seem to be functioning with increasing comfort within the city proper.

Analysts observed that defense units had freed a large area of a Russian penetration in the Dobropillya front, on the eastern edge of the Pokrovsk operation.

Ukrainian Aerial Attacks Inside Russia

Kyiv's aerial vehicles targeted a production facility approximately a considerable distance inside Russian territory at Sterlitamak. Regional authorities reported an explosion at the Sterlitamak facility that resulted in structural damage to partially collapse, adding that the origin of the detonation was not known. The Ukrainian military general staff stated there was considerable damage to the facility.

National forces said it struck a fuel processing plant at the city in the federal district in central Russia. The extent of the damage was being assessed. The local official acknowledged a strike by 20 drones near the refinery.

Russian Security Strategic Shifts

Russian military reservists will now have to guard oil refineries against aerial attacks after Vladimir Putin signed a law on Tuesday extending their entanglement in the conflict. The head of state also approved legislation permitting draft enrollment throughout the year whereas previously it was possible only during restricted intervals in autumn and spring. Russian law prohibits conscripts from being deployed to combat, but after their military service they become part of the backup units, putting them at risk of being assigned to combat zones.

Significant armed forces costs have also started to pressure the national finances, with authorities hiking rates to address growing shortfalls.

Zelenskyy's Requests for International Support

Zelenskyy appealed to Washington to remain open to supplying Kyiv with far-reaching military equipment. Addressing a European Union summit from the conflict zone, the head of state also requested more western sanctions on Russia – including on the energy and atomic industries – and said he desired European Union membership by the end of the 2020s.

Foreign Aid and Political Developments

Germany plans to increase defense support to the nation by €3bn next year to about 11.5 billion euros, the economic authority in the capital said on Tuesday. This comprises, among other things, heavy weapons, unmanned aircraft, protected carriers and the replacement of two Patriot systems.

Nordic ammunition manufacturer Nammo has established a cooperation framework with a national production company to make, design and market arms in the country.
